Theory
Scanning is the process of taking an image or text and converting it to a digital format that can be displayed and manipulated on your computer. Images or text can be scanned from a piece of paper, a photograph, slides, and strip film. The scanner converts each feature of an image into bits, the smallest unit of data in a computer. A 1-bit image has less information than a 24-bit image for the computer to work with.
Colour is the best mode to select when working with a colour image. it's 24-bit continuous- tone configuration produces 256 variations of each of three colours- red, green and blue (RGB) - for a total of 16,777,216 possible colours per sample (256 x 256 x 256). it's used primarily for producing colour photographs and slides.
The document cover closes over the image during a scan. The carriage holds the CCDs (charged coupled device) which pass over the image and digitize it. The OPERATE button switches the scanner on and off. The ready, error, and operate lights indicate the scanner can scan, has a problem and is scanning, respectively.
This diagram shows the strip film adaptor pulled out of the scanner. When the try seats properly in the scanner the green status light flashes. strip film is inserted into the adaptor and the scanner draws it in. In the case of the slide mount scanner, the slide mount adaptor is pulled out of the scanner. when the tray seats properly in the scanner the green status light flashes. the scanner can scan one slide at a time.
